A-Z Bristol Pub Crawl: The Lifeboat Inn, Shirehampton
The Lifeboat Inn in Shirehampton plays a small part in Bristol rugby history, with Ellis Genge and Callum Sheedy living next door to the pub during Genge’s first spell at the club.
Since those days as junior members of the Bristol squad, the pair have both gone on to represent their countries, Genge recently named England vice-captain and Sheedy so far winning 16 Wales caps.
England vs Wales in Qatar saw the Lifeboat packed out with football fans, with the pub currently decked out with the flags of all of the competing nations in the football World Cup.
Spain vs Japan was on the screens on Thursday night but the commentary was turned down – with an eclectic mix of Oasis, Bob Marley and John Denver playing on the jukebox.

Above a couple of flags of Brazil and South Korea is a plaque remembering lifeboats that once served Weston-super-Mare.
One such boat remembered is the Fifi & Charles which operated between 1933 and 1961, in that time saving 83 lives.
A perhaps unique feature is an orange, blue and white lifeboat making up the bar.
This pub might not still be here if not for a group of nine friends, who took on the Lifeboat in 2021, saving it from potential development into flats and turning their local into their own local.
So raise a glass to Jonny Golder Jnr, John Golder, Martin Ackerman, Bob Hone, Chris Jakeways, George Ralph, Paul Clarke, Julian Stevens and Jerry Male, who call the newly refurbished Lifeboat “a testament to the power of friendship, community and collaboration”.
