The Pear Cafe to close

By Martin Booth  Friday Sep 21, 2018

After more than 12 years in St Paul’s, a popular cafe has announced that Tuesday, September 25 will be its last day.

The Pear Cafe owner Elly Curshen confirmed the news on Instagram, the social media platform which has made her a well-known name in the food and drink scene not just in Bristol but across the UK.

“New chapters and all that jazz,” Elly wrote. “More exciting news soon but that’s it for now.”

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

Here’s her Instagram post in full:

“Hey everyone. I’ve got some news. After 12.5 years, I’ve made the decision to close The Pear Cafe. It’s all good, I’m not closing for any bad reason (in fact trade is particularly brisk!), it’s just the right thing for me at this point in my life. New chapters and all that jazz. More exciting news soon but that’s it for now. Tuesday 25th September 2018 will be our last day. Thank you all for the ride. I’ve enjoyed unbelievable support for 150 months of trading and I’m forever grateful. To my suppliers, my customers, my neighbours and friends. To all of you. Thank you, thank you, thank you Elly xxx”

Since opening her cafe within The Coach House on Upper York Street, Elly has amassed more than 54,000 followers on Instagram and has written two cookbooks, Feast Days and Fast Days and Let’s Eat.

She regularly does demonstrations at food festivals up and down the country, and takes part in special events, many for charity, as well as making her frittatas world famous.
