‘Exciting opportunity’ to bring empty site to life with pop-up restaurant
More details have been revealed about a pop-up restaurant that could be at the centre of Clifton Village for around two years.
As Bristol24/7 first reported, the planned location of the temporary restaurant is the empty site on Clifton Down Road which was last used as an ice rink in 2014 before lying empty.
Speare Developments has now submitted a planning application that will bring back to the life the location that also used to have a WHSmith and other shops.
The operators of the pop-up restaurant are likely to be the Pony Family, behind numerous successful eateries including Root and Salt & Malt in Wapping Wharf, the Kensington Arms in Redland, and the Pony Chew Valley in Chew Magna.

A Speare Developments spokesperson said that the site between Clifton Down Road, Boyce’s Avenue and King’s Road “has been derelict for too long”.
They said: “A pop-up restaurant presents an exciting opportunity to bring the site to life and improve its appearance whilst we develop permanent plans.
“We want the site to be open and active again, not fenced off and forgotten.
“There’s still a long way to go. As with any brownfield site, there are complex technical constraints that have the potential to affect the viability of a temporary scheme, but we are working through them.
“With that being said, we are serious about making this area better and we’re excited to explore Clifton’s strong identity as we prepare plans for the site’s long-term future.”
