Coffee from a tuk-tuk in Greville Smyth Park

By Bristol24/7  Friday Oct 23, 2015

There is an unusual new addition to Greville Smyth Park in the form of a tuk-tuk which owner Rich Brady has converted into a mobile cafe.

Hopper Coffee’s Piaggeo Apé is based next to the bowls and tennis club in the park seven days a week – unless rain stops play when Brady can drive it back to his home nearby, returning when the sun comes back.

The Apé, invented in Italy in 1948 to transport light goods, is currently experiencing something of a renaissance in the form of mobile shops, marketing concepts and street food.

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

A simple set-up at Hopper Coffee sees a selection of teas and coffees, bottles from Frank Water, Whole Earth elderflower and San Pellegrino.

Everything fits into the small three-wheeled vehicle remarkably well with even space found at the back for two bar stools and a small fold-out table; this is also the best spot to see the selection of cakes and pastries from an ever-changing selection of suppliers.

Sweet treats from Bosh – already for sale in Small Street Espresso, Full Court Press and Playground – are currently on offer, all priced at £2 including salted caramel brownies, white chocolate and raspberry blondies, and lemon and almond polenta cakes.

Brady is currently looking for a more central pitch for morning commuters. For now, take a trip to the park to find Bristol’s newest cafe on three wheels.
