Clifton restaurant closes following short-lived collaboration
When two Clifton Village restaurants joined forces at the end of 2018, it was seen as an innovative new approach to continued tough times within the restaurant industry.
But those tough times are continuing, and less than two months since Wallfish & Wellbourne Bistro opened its doors on The Mall, it has closed.
“Unfortunately due to circumstances I feel very much out of our control @_Wellbourne will not be reopening again,” tweeted Seldon Curry, formerly one half of the Wallfish team with Liberty Wenham who closed their original restaurant on Princess Victoria Street in October 2018.
“Thankyou for your support and custom it has not gone unappreciated. The nuclear fallout of this though is that both liberty and myself are available for work immediately if anybody needs a hand. I know my way around a turbot. [email protected].”

On Tuesday morning, the Wellbourne team also tweeted: “Sad news, due to matters out of our hands, Wellbourne has officially closed its doors.
“We want to thank the people who supported us over the time and we wish you all an amazing 2019!”
Wellbourne also had restaurants in White City in London and Salardu in Spain, the fate of which are currently unknown, with its website currently a blank screen.
Wallfish & Wellbourne Bistro has become the second high profile restaurant casualty of 2019, with Rosa on Whiteladies Road not reopening after the Christmas break.
