A restaurant that offered volunteering, training and employment opportunities to young people has announced it will be closing at the end of September.
The Kitchen on Silver Street has been open for seven years and was recently transformed into The Restaurant That Makes Mistakes for the Channel 4 series of the same name.
“There has been a lot of laughter and a few tears, but we are really proud of our fantastic team and young people that have made The Kitchen a warm, friendly nurturing place for our customers and volunteers,” a Kitchen statement said.
“We’ve celebrated new beginnings and said goodbye to good friends along the way. It’s felt like a family – albeit a pretty eccentric and at times dysfunctional one!”
The decision to close comes after the YMCA has stopped contributing to the running costs of The Kitchen.
The statement added: “Thank you to you our customers – you have truly made it possible for us to not only create a calm and welcoming space in a hectic city centre but also to offer a place for young people to build their confidence, learn new skills and find a sense of belonging.”
