Casamia team announce opening date of Pi Shop

By Martin Booth  Wednesday Jun 15, 2016

A new pizza restaurant from the team behind Casamia will be opening next door to its Michelin-starred older sibling on July 21.

Pi Shop is a return to the roots of Casamia, which was opened in Westbury-on-Trym in 1999 as a traditional trattoria serving pizza and pasta.

“So, it’s always been a dream of Jonray and mine to return to our roots and create a pizza restaurant in our home town – of course!” says Casamia’s Peter Sanchez-Iglesias.

Pi Shop in The General on the Bathurst Basin will be serving sourdough pizza seven days a week.

It has taken more than five years to pursue this dream. And if having two restaurants side by side is not ambitious enough, before the end of the summer the pair will also be joined by Paco Tapas, offering Spanish tapas and sherry.

But back to the pizza. “We’re mixing things up, as I guess we’re kinda known for, revamping classic pizzas – think meat feast, marinara, Hawaiian and a few more,” Peter says.

“By working with our amazing local suppliers, and a few Italian ingredients thrown in the mix, as well as serving up some interesting new combinations.

“We can’t wait to test out our bad boy copper pizza oven, which of course will be on full view for all to see!”

The Sanchez-Iglesias family also promise to make sure the beer, cocktails, coffee and wine are as good as their pizzas, showcasing everything Bristol has to offer.
