Bar closes after car crash ‘took the wind out of the sails’
A bar on Stokes Croft has closed just weeks after its neighbouring sister venue also shut its doors.
The Farside on the ground floor of the Carriageworks was open for just a year and was owned by Left Handed Giant.
Writing on Instagram, the team said: “There is no easy way to say this, but we have decided to close The Farside. Our final day of service was Thursday the 18th of July, and the venue will remain closed going forward.”
is needed now More than ever
The closure of The Farside follows the closure of Hotplate in June, which was also owned by LHG.
The Farside’s statement said that a car crashing into Pizza Is Lovely which shared part of their space “took the wind out of the sails of the venue”.
The Farside statement said: “2024 and 2025 have presented increasingly difficult economic conditions, and we’ve not been immune to that.
“Rising costs, cost of living crisis and unpredictable footfall have hit our industry hard. More than 2,000 bars and restaurants closed their doors last year alone.
“The team at the Farside have worked so hard and poured their creativity, commitment and effort into the venue.
“It has been a labour of love, and each member of the team has given their all.
“It makes what happened on the 22nd of June even more heartbreaking, as the crash into the pizzeria took the wind out of the sails of the venue.
“Thank you to everyone who came in to share a drink and story in The Farside, we’ll remember each and every one of you.
“We’ve loved seeing you and serving you, and we all hope to see you around Bristol in the future. We’ll always love you.”
