Flying high at the Bristol Kite Festival

By Pamela Parkes  Friday Aug 21, 2015

It’s back and organisers say the 2015 Kite Festival, on a new site on the Downs, will be bigger and better than ever.

Kites of every size, shape and colour will be taking to the skies at this weekend’s free festival, including huge animal-shaped and 3D creatures which can be up to 30m long.

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

Top kiters will be at the festival including Peter Lynn who will be flying giant tigers, bears, dogs, manta rays and octopi in the arena displays throughout the weekend.

International flyers will also be flying including Marco Casadio whose collection includes large voluptuous mermaids, Neptune and a series of angels and cherubs.

Jan van Leeuwen, from Holland, flies trains of comic creations one above the other, including a school bus, the Love Bug and motorbike & side car as well as a series of animal faces and even a pair of flying trainers.

UK designers Nick James from Bristol and Martin Lester from Cornwall fill the sky with heavenly kites featuring hosts of angels and spirits.

The Kite Festival 2015 is at the Clifton Downs 22 and 23 August.
