Surprise candidate for Bristol mayor revealed

By Martin Booth  Thursday Jan 3, 2019

Bristol’s most famous gig-goer has been revealed as a surprise possible candidate for Bristol mayor.

Jeffrey Johns, better known as Big Jeff, has been tipped for the top job at City Hall in a new piece of graffiti in Totterdown.

The piece on Bath Road near the Paintworks shows Big Jeff with his well-known mop of blond curly hair and wearing headphones.

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

The graffiti celebrating Big Jeff has appeared on Bath Road

The piece was painted by Bristol graffiti artist Haka

The words underneath the piece read, “Big Jeff for mayor!!”

It was painted by Bristol graffiti artist Haka. Writing on his Facebook page, he said: “In Bristol we have this guy called by Big Jeff who goes to all the music concerts. He’s a legend so I painted him up!”

Jeff attends shows around town almost every night of the week, sometimes even going to more than one on the same night.

He was an ambassador for Independent Venue Week last year and in 2016 starred in a music video for Brooklyn band Augustines:
