New release: Xav Clarke – nostalgia, psychedelia and Indiana Jones
Harrison Digital Ford Dust chronicles a psychedelic stand-off between two rival classmates dressed as Indiana Jones on non-uniform day who are both determined to prove themselves the real Harrison Ford.
Inspired by the discovery of a long lost school yearbook, it is the lead single from the record of the same intriguing title released on July 10 by Xav Clarke.
It’s the second album from the songwriter and guitarist best known to date for his award-winning film and animation compositions alongside work with cult act Mozart Estate and within it, he says, “nostalgia, fantasy and identity collapse into one another”.
is needed now More than ever
The ten tracks of jangly indie blend a summer-breeze freshness with dreamy melodies enhanced by double-tracked vocals, squelchy synth and Super Furry fuzz.
Dancing on just the right side of whimsy, its an upbeat clutch of songs which occasionally branch into wistful heartbreak, and has been supported by BBC6 Music.
The album was produced by Mike Lindsay of Tunng and LUMP, and Waldo’s Gift‘s James Vine contributes glitchy live drums augmented with vintage drum machine.

Vine, guitarist Henry Gabbott and bass player Eva Redman will be joining Clarke on his tour in support of the album which lands at the Louisiana on July 13.
Bristol’s ‘Fleetwood Mac x creepy punk’ hybrid Big Fright and Greenwich Village-style indie-pop artist Milly Upton provide support.
Harrison Digital Ford Dust is released on July 10. Listen to the album at ffm.to/23o37qw
