Brisfest announces lineup for 2016
Brisfest has announced its lineup for 2016. The community festival returns on July 30 after a two-year break, with Bristol24/7 programming the main stage at The Station.
The renamed Brisfest: soundscape will feature more than 100 Bristol bands and artists. Stages will be dotted around 15 city centre venues, with a central area around The Station, The Island and the Old Crown Courts.
Of the more established artists, Bristol Sound pioneers Smith & Mighty (pictured above) need no introduction, and neither should Break (Symmetry Recordings), whose impeccable, diamond-hard productions have made him a leading figure in drum & bass for well over a decade.
Our live headliners are Spectres, whose mindblowing show at Arnolfini in January was one of the finest local band performances we’ve ever seen. Then there’s man-of-the-moment Kahn (Bandulu / Young Echo), a master of underground dubplate sounds from grime to dancehall.
Other festival highlights include Mr Woodnote, Eva Lazarus & Lil Rhys, Oliver Wilde, The Carny Villains, Cousin Kula, Gotsome, October and The Allergies.
This year’s festival boasts a radical new ticketing system. Punters can pay what they choose from a minimum of £10 per ticket (daytime only) or £15 (day and night). The festival’s profits will be split 50/50 between the performing artists and Brisfest’s charitable work.
“It’s about bringing Bristol music to the forefront of audience attention,” says festival committee chair Poppy Stephenson.
“Brisfest is the showcase of our future stars, of the hottest new acts from the region, ones to watch across all genres.”
