Curzon hosts ‘Mum’s List’ regional premiere

By Rhiannon Thomas  Thursday Nov 24, 2016

“Always kiss them goodnight, and buy orange Club biscuits regularly.”

Two requests from Kate Greene from Clevedon, who wrote down a list of her hopes, dreams and reminders for her husband and two young sons while she was dying of cancer.

Mum’s List, the bestselling book by her husband St John ‘Singe’ Greene tells the story of the family: Kate and Singe, and their two sons Reef and Finn.

After Kate passed away Singe was inspired to write the book based on their lives together, how they attempted to cope with the illness and how the boys are ticking off her list of hopes and requests.

The book has been turned into a film, which has its premiere screening event on Thursday evening at the Curzon in their hometown.

Mum’s List shows how Singe came across more and more scraps of paper, with notes and reminders on how to carry on after she dies, with Kate leaving the wish list for her husband via notes, texts and voicemails.

The film, directed by Clevedon-based Niall Johnson, stars Emilia Fox as Kate and Rafe Spall as Singe.

When Kate was diagnosed with cancer, the family were only just getting over the fact that their elder son Reef had been diagnosed with a very rare form of cancer himself.

The four-year-old had rhabdoid soft tissue sarcoma, an extremely aggressive form of cancer in his leg. He was given only a six per cent survival chance, but miraculously recovered.

Just like in the book, Mum’s List shows just how in love the two were, how happy they were with their family, and how they were devastatingly affected by cancer not just once, but twice.

The premiere screening event at the Curzon will raise money for CLIC Sargent, a cancer charity for children and young people. Director Niall Johnson will be present, along with the real Singe for a Q&A after the screening.
