Bristol dominates again in this year’s Wildscreen Panda Award nominations
Not for nothing are the Panda Awards known as the Green Oscars. These prestigious gongs are dished out by Bristol-based charity Wildscreen as the highlight of the Wildscreen Festival of natural world storytelling, which this year celebrates its 42nd edition.
The 2024 competition attracted nearly 700 entries from more than 25% of the world’s countries across 15 different awards categories. And once again, Bristol has cemented its reputation as a world-leading centre of natural world filmmaking, with 27 of the nominees featuring involvement from Bristol-based production companies.
Leading the pack with three nominations apiece are three films from Bristol producers:
Billy & Molly: An Otter Love Story
Silverback Films
A middle-aged man forms an unlikely friendship with a wild otter in the Shetland Islands
Wildstar Films
Following a young tigress as she raises her cubs in the forests of India.
Underdog Films, KEO Films
A year in the life of the Ngogo chimpanzees – the largest chimpanzee group ever discovered.
The awards take place on 17 October at the Bristol Harbour Hotel and will be live-streamed globally. Wildscreen runs from October 14-18. Hybrid and online passes for the Wildscreen Festival and Panda Awards ceremony are available to buy here.
