‘I, we, and wider’: a week of dance workshops and three late events at The Mount Without

By Sarski Anderson  Tuesday Jul 4, 2023

A week-long programme of dance workshops and evening events is running at The Mount Without from July 10-15, commissioned by resident company Impermanence Dance and curated by accomplished professional dancer and teacher, Kip Johnson.

Called I, we and wider, the programme aims to celebrate dance within Bristol, as well as advocating for more support and an increasing audience for the artform in the city.

The ‘summer series’ includes a daily morning class led by Johnson, followed by afternoon workshops by visiting practitioners: Amarnah Ufuoma Cleopatra, Jo Fong, Orrow Bell and Vanessa Grasse.

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

Open to all, from professional dancers to those with some – or even no – experience but lots of enthusiasm, the classes are designed to afford opportunities for participants to learn from others, as well as to develop their own practice.

People are invited to drop in, or to join for the whole week of dancing, and the week will be closed by a free communal lunch.

Alongside the daytime events, three I, we and wider: LATES will seek to draw in a wider audience with a rich and varied evening programme.

On Thursday 13, Sarah-Jane McCarthy leads a workshop in life drawing for dance, and Friday 14 features a film screening of The Show of Shows: 100 years of Vaudeville, Circuses and Carnivals alongside live circus acts.

Concluding the series, award-winning Norwegian/Swedish dance company H2Dance bring their interactive performance for families and young people to The Mount Without on Saturday 15.
