Review: The Rest of Our Lives, The Mount Without – ‘The truest show you’ll ever see’
Bristol’s most beautiful venue is once more playing host to a programme of dance curated by Impermanence, whose Spring / Summer season is set to showcase a vibrant array of work.
The Rest of Our Lives, created and performed by Jo Fong and George Orange, confronts middle-age with courage and levity.
The show shifts fluidly between candour and comedy, and invites its audience to remain ponderous and playful in the face of ageing.

Fong and Orange share a loose and easy chemistry; the choreography throughout has a faux-careless quality which complements the tone and messaging of the wider work.
The great irony in this exploration of ageing is the child-like vulnerability so painfully and adroitly portrayed; The Rest of Our Lives is the truest show you’ll ever see.

Many of the piece’s most tender moments are enhanced by its music, which ranges from Etta James to Jeff Buckley via Blondie and Luther Vandross.
That the show ends with what can only be described as a party is no surprise. The Rest of Our Lives is fundamentally a celebration of our lives, our bodies and those with whom we share our fleeting time.
