Banksy’s idea for Colston plinth
Bristol’s most famous artist has suggested an idea for what the city should do with the plinth that used to contain the statue of its most infamous slave trader.
“What should we do with the empty plinth in the middle of Bristol?” Banksy has asked.
“Here’s an idea that caters for both those who miss the Colston statue and those who don’t.
is needed now More than ever
“We drag him out the water, put him back on the plinth, tie cable round his neck and commission some life size bronze statues of protestors in the act of pulling him down. Everyone happy. A famous day commemorated.”

Posted on Instagram, the black and white illustration depicts the statue with ropes around its neck being dragged down by four masked protesters.
Banksy recently spoke out in support of the Black Lives Matter movement, saying: “People of colour are being failed by the system.
“This is a white problem. And if white people don’t fix it, someone will have to come upstairs and kick the door in.”
The artist has had a prolific few weeks, with this his third new piece created during the coronavirus pandemic, following other works celebrating the NHS and on the theme of working from home.
