Charity cafe opens on Gloucester Road

By Martin Booth  Tuesday Jul 28, 2015

“It’s a cafe,” said the young boy in amazement as he crossed between the St Peter’s Hospice shop and what is now the other side of a large hole in the dividing wall.

This particular shop on the Gloucester Road is the charity’s most profitable – and it could now bring in even more money thanks to the new addition of a cafe next door.

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

All profits from Nonesuch Cup will go to the work of St Peter’s Hospice in Bristol. It follows in the footsteps of Teawithus, a short-lived cafe on Whiteladies Road that used to help raise money for cancer charity Tenovus.

Incidentally, the team behind coffee roasters and nearby Citroen van Roasted Rituals will be taking over this Whiteladies Road unit soon, transforming it into a specialist coffee shop called Tradewind Espresso.

Anyway, back to Gloucester Road and Nonesuch which is named after Bristol’s official flower.

Food here is all pretty basic fare – with baked beans on toast, jacket potatoes and a ploughman’s lunch. There is also afternoon tea available for £4.95.

As well as the chance to grab some bargains from the shop next door, of which you are reminded about with regular announcements between the selection of songs on the stereo, there is a courtyard garden to discover.

It’s a cafe. In a charity shop. Grab a Rooibos next time you’re having a rumble.
