Helping people work from home during lockdown

By Bristol24/7  Wednesday Apr 15, 2020

A business which only recently opened its showroom in Wapping Wharf has quickly changed its focus in a move to both safeguard its future and help people at home during lockdown.

HUSK has gone from building custom-made kitchen cabinet fronts and workshops to creating flatpack desks for children to be home-schooled and adults to work from home.

All the desks are made by Will Manaton in a workshop in Montpelier, with the orders managed by Millie Teden who is working from home.

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

HUSK co-owner Dave Young said: “Our team puts their hearts and souls into their work and were gutted when we had to grind to a halt following the Government advice.

“This is an interim measure to continue trading through these unprecedented times, keeping a few of our team in work and protecting the future of the business. We hope very much to be able to scale back up later down the line.

“We felt this idea fulfilled a real need, helping people to more easily continue their jobs at home and home-school their children. The desks can also be painted, which makes for a fun arts and crafts project to keep the kids entertained!”
