Bristol24/7 named among UK’s top 100 social enterprises

By Charlie Watts  Monday Jul 3, 2023

Bristol24/7 has been named among the top 100 social enterprises in the UK in this year’s NatWest SE100 Index.

Those on the list have been recognised for their financial performance, how thoroughly they measured and managed their impact, and their commitment to both climate issues and to taking positive action on equality and diversity.

Alongside Bristol24/7, this year’s SE100 Top 100 includes social businesses and trading charities delivering a range of goods and services, from jobs and training to books, bread, period products, cycling and clean energy.

The NatWest SE100 Index was created by Pioneers Post in partnership with NatWest Social & Community Capital, the bank’s independent social investment charity.

Megan Virrels, CEO of NatWest Social & Community Capital, said: “A huge congratulations to all those named in this year’s NatWest SE100 list.

“Social & Community Capital has been committed to supporting UK social enterprises for over 20 years, and we are constantly inspired by the resilience, ambition, and creativity that we see in the sector.

“So we’re delighted to partner with Pioneers Post again to showcase the very best social enterprises across the UK and recognise the fantastic work of these impactful organisations.”

On making the list, Bristol24/7 Managing Director Ben Wright added: “The last few years since Covid have probably been our toughest but it’s also the period in which we’ve done some of our most important work as a social enterprise.

“We hope that in launching our community reporter initiative and becoming the first regional publisher to employ a climate and sustainability editor we are finding a new approach to local media that is purpose-led, focused on bringing new voices into journalism and rooted in the community.

“We were really surprised to hear that we have been included as one of the UK’s top 100 social enterprises but it’s great to get some recognition for the work we’ve done.”

Altogether, the total revenues of those who entered the SE100 this year came to almost £512m – compared to last year’s figure of £393m.
