Short film celebrates Wapping Wharf businesses

By Caitlin Bowring  Friday Nov 27, 2020

A new short film has been launched celebrating the independent retailers and restaurants at Bristol’s Wapping Wharf.

Many of the businesses at the harbourside community are staying open through the second lockdown, with restaurants and cafes offering take-away, delivery and click and collect.

It is hoped the film, produced by Wapping Wharf resident Lorne Kramer, of Under the Wing Productions, will remind people to support local businesses in the run-up to Christmas.

Wapping Wharf is part of Bristol’s historical and cultural quarter, and now hosts more than 40 independent businesses, including restaurants, shops, cafes and lifestyle businesses.

Many are based within CARGO – a retail hub made of converted shipping containers.

“Like Wapping Wharf itself, this film just buzzes with the passion and independent spirit that makes this place what it is – a really diverse and exciting place to eat, drink, shop and spend time,” says Stuart Hatton, managing director at Umberslade, the developer behind Wapping Wharf.

“I’ve been amazed by how our retailers have innovated and adapted this year to keep offering their unique products and services. But what really comes through, and I’ve seen more than ever this year, is the collaboration between so many of the businesses here,” he adds.

“From fresh produce bought from CARGO retailers then lovingly prepared and served in neighbouring restaurants, to cheese from the Bristol Cheesemonger offered to diners at BOX-E, along with combined deliveries and online services – the community has pulled together like never before.

“We too should pull together to support them and other local businesses this Christmas – and enjoy all they have to offer to help it make it really special.”

Built on previously derelict land, Wapping Wharf is a new neighbourhood on Bristol’s historic harbourside and once completed, will feature more than 600 new homes, along with a range of retail and office space.
