WTPN hosts celebration evening for Share to Support scheme

By Miles Arnold  Tuesday May 21, 2024

The Western Training Provider Network (WTPN) celebrated a significant milestone on Wednesday May 15, with their Share to Support celebration evening. This event acknowledged the success of an initiative that has redirected apprenticeship levy funds to small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in the West of England. Over the past three years, the scheme has facilitated over £3 million in levy transactions, leading to the creation of 397 apprenticeships and fostering regional growth and development.

The evening brought together a diverse group of levy donors, SMEs, and apprentices who have benefited from the scheme. Metro mayor Dan Norris attended the event, highlighting the initiative’s positive impact on the local economy and community. He commended the opportunities created through the scheme, which enhance the region’s economic resilience and social cohesion.

A key highlight of the evening was the testimonials from two organisations that have directly benefited from the levy funding. Raised in Bristol, an early years education provider and community hub, shared their success story. They discussed how the financial support from Bristol City Council has been crucial in addressing recruitment challenges in the early years sector, a field currently facing a significant recruitment crisis. This support has enabled them to continue providing quality education and care.

Inclusive Change, an organisation dedicated to supporting the neurodiverse community, also shared their experience. They emphasised the importance of recognising and embracing neurodiversity in the workforce. The levy funds provided by the University of Bristol have allowed Inclusive Change to offer tailored opportunities for neurodiverse individuals, ensuring they have equal chances to thrive in their careers.

The Share to Support Scheme demonstrates how strategic financial contributions can drive significant change. By redirecting unused apprenticeship levy funds to areas where they are most needed, the scheme has empowered SMEs to invest in their workforce, promoting sustainable growth and development.
