Community of Purpose hosts Bristol Together Championships
More than 200 young people from 24 schools across Bristol and South Gloucestershire came together for the Bristol Together Championships, celebrating months of building friendships and connections across different communities.
Held at UWE Hillside Gardens on June 10, the event marked the culmination of a school twinning programme designed to bring together pupils from different demographic areas through shared activities, school visits and sport.
Each school selected five pupils to take part and paired with another school, giving participants the opportunity to experience different communities, challenge perceptions and develop relationships beyond their own neighbourhoods and schools.
The Championships saw twinned schools compete together as one team in a festival of football, teamwork and celebration.

Grace Kington, Purposeful Project & Impact manager, said: “The Bristol Together Championships are the culmination of months of relationship-building between schools and young people from very different communities.
“Through visits to each other’s schools and neighbourhoods, pupils have had the opportunity to learn from one another, challenge perceptions and build genuine friendships.”
She added: “What makes this programme special is that football is simply the vehicle. The real success is seeing young people connect across communities, discover shared experiences and develop relationships that wouldn’t otherwise have existed.
“The Championships are a celebration of those connections and everything the young people have achieved together.”

The event was attended by (from left to right) deputy leader of Bristol City Council, high sheriff of Bristol and the lord mayor of Bristol
Teachers and organisers praised the enthusiasm and openness shown by participants, highlighting the confidence and understanding developed throughout the programme.
Following this year’s event, Community of Purpose is inviting schools to register interest for the 2027 Bristol Together Championships.
