Bristol Business Improvement District launches ‘Love Bristol, Love Broadmead’ with spring clean
A new programme of events celebrating Broadmead has been launched by Bristol Business Improvement District (BID), beginning with a week-long community spring clean.
The Love Bristol, Love Broadmead initiative aims to revitalise the busy shopping quarter in Bristol through events, creative projects and community activities designed to bring people together and encourage more visitors to spend time in the city centre.
The programme begins with the Big Broadmead Spring Clean, running from March 23 to 29, where volunteers, businesses and community groups will take part in litter picking, planting, painting and other improvements to public spaces and shopfronts.
The effort will be delivered in partnership with Bristol Waste Company and forms part of the wider Great Bristol Spring Clean campaign.

The spring clean will also feature music, games and activities, with equipment provided for volunteers who wish to take part.
Further events will follow throughout spring and summer. After the Easter bank holiday, the Care & Repair Festival will run from April 7 to 19 with free workshops, storytelling sessions, treasure hunts and repair events across venues including Sparks Bristol and John Wesley’s New Room.
As part of the Love Bristol, Love Broadmead programme, a new creative project titled A Love Letter to Broadmead will bring fresh artistic energy to the area this spring.
Delivered by Compass Presents and commissioned by Bristol City Council, with funding from the UK government’s Shared Prosperity Fund and the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority, the project will transform two vacant units in Broadmead into temporary creative spaces, including a broadcast hub for Ujima Radio and a youth-led hangout.
Performances and events will follow over the early May bank holiday weekend.
The wider programme will continue into the summer with festivals and events including DIASPORA! Festival of Black and Independent Film, Festival of Nature, Make Music Day and activities linked to Bristol Pride.
Anna Farthing, interim head of place at Bristol bid, said: “Broadmead sits at the heart of Bristol’s city centre. It’s where people shop, meet friends, catch the bus home and experience the everyday life of the city.
“With Love Bristol, Love Broadmead we’re shining a light on what already works well, while bringing partners, businesses and communities together to make visible improvements and create new reasons for people to spend time here.

“The unification of the Bristol BID has given us the opportunity to bring more resources, ideas and partnerships into the city centre than ever before, and Broadmead is the perfect place to demonstrate what that collaboration can achieve.”
Sabrina Shutter, senior events project manager at Bristol bid, said: “Broadmead is one of the busiest places in the city. It’s used by people of all ages, backgrounds and communities every single day. This programme is about celebrating that energy and inviting people to rediscover the area through events, creativity and shared experiences.
“From the Big Broadmead Spring Clean through to festivals, art and family activities across the year, there will be plenty of opportunities for people to get involved and show Broadmead some love.”
