Reuse shop initiative marks major milestone
Bristol Waste has marked a major milestone after the 400,000th item was sold or donated through its reuse scheme.
The achievement highlights the growing success of the company’s Reuse Shops at household reuse and recycling centres across Bristol, where residents can drop off unwanted goods that are then resold to give them another lease of life.
The initiative also marks another milestone with the latest £10,000 donation to St Peter’s Hospice, which brings total support for the hospice to more than £50,000.
Bristol Waste’s reuse growth manager, Jak Boydon, said: “Reaching over £50,000 in support for St Peter’s Hospice is something we’re incredibly proud of.

“It shows what’s possible when residents, staff and volunteers come together to give unwanted items a second life.
“Through reuse, we’re reducing waste, making affordable goods available locally, and turning donated items into vital funding that supports hospice care for people across Bristol.”
St Peter’s Hospice, Bristol’s only adult hospice, provides free care and support for people with life-limiting illnesses and their families across the region, relying heavily on fundraising and donations to continue its services.
What began as a single pop-up reuse event in 2020 has since expanded into three dedicated reuse shops at Avonmouth, Hartcliffe Way and St Philip’s recycling centres.
The scheme helps prevent usable items from going to waste while making affordable household goods available to local people.

Hailed as a ‘win-win’ for communities across Bristol, the shops allow patrons to find bargains on electrical goods, household items, furniture, power tools, tech and gift items.
In the last five years, the initiative has saved hundreds of tonnes of materials from being discarded, diverting them from landfill or incineration.
Bristol Waste said the milestone reflects the efforts of residents, staff and volunteers who continue to support the initiative by donating items and shopping at the reuse outlets.
Income generated through the programme supports charitable causes, including St Peter’s Hospice.

Tracy Burns, partnerships manager at St Peter’s Hospice, said: “Thank you so much to Bristol Waste for the ongoing support they give to our organisation.
“The latest £10,000 donation is hugely appreciated and to hear that over £50,000 has been raised for us in total is incredible.”
