Barcan+Kirby achieves accreditation under Muslim Employment Charter

By Bristol24/7  Wednesday Mar 13, 2024

Barcan+Kirby, the award winning law firm, has proudly achieved accreditation under the Muslim Employment Charter, solidifying its commitment to fostering workplace inclusivity. By joining the charter, the firm aims to enhance its support for muslim professionals in the modern workplace, creating an environment where individuals can thrive without compromising their religious duties.

Executive partner Anna Wilson expressed pride in being one of the first law firms to sign the Muslim Employment Charter, emphasising the importance of creating an inclusive and diverse environment for staff. She highlighted the firm’s dedication to ensuring that religious identity is never a barrier or cause of isolation.

Following their commitment to the charter, Barcan+Kirby’s Thornbury office has taken tangible steps to accommodate muslim employees, including the installation of a wudumate for ritual ablution, as well as providing prayer mats and jugs for each office.

Trainee solicitor Aishah Din commended the firm’s inclusivity efforts, especially the installation of the wudumate at the Thornbury office. She emphasised the significance of feeling seen and heard, encouraging other firms and colleagues to embrace diversity and create a safe space for everyone.

Waqas Hussain, founder of the Muslim Employment Charter, applauded Barcan+Kirby’s commitment to inclusivity. The accreditation signifies the firm’s active accommodation of religious obligations, offering a clear signal to employees that their faith is acknowledged and supported.

Hussain encouraged other organisations to follow Barcan+Kirby’s example, recognizing the benefits the Muslim Employment Charter brings to both employers and employees. The accreditation marks a crucial step in the firm’s equality, diversity and inclusion journey, and they look forward to a continued relationship with the charter, reinforcing their dedication to creating a more inclusive workplace.
