Southmead Hospital art for visually impaired
Easton artist Alistair Park has created a four-foot wide oak carving with the help of patients, staff and visitors at Southmead Hospital.
Alistair wanted his artwork to be appreciated by visually impaired people as well as those with perfect sight so he used Braille lettering to enhanced the piece.
Below, blind married couple Paul and Hazel Sullivan are feeling the artwork that they both helped to create:
There is a smaller block with Braille lettering on that is actually the alphabet for people to try and work out what the Braille on the main panel says:
The Braille lettering reads: “Trust, anything is possible, together kindness is everywhere, how are you? You are stronger than you think, it’s all about people, give me strength to reach out. In 2015 these words and phrases meant a lot to patients in hospitals writing and knitting groups. This carved oak panel was made by Alistair Park. It shows the writing and knitting forming a landscape with the words on it.”
