Too Many Critics
A host of Bristol’s renowned food critics and writers will gallantly swap pens for pans to cook a feast for a room full of chefs and guests, raising vital funds for Action Against Hunger.
Over the years, Too Many Critics – first staged in London in 2001, and now with spin-off events in Manchester and Brighton – has introduced dozens of food writers to the heat of a professional kitchen. Now Bambalan on Colston Avenue will host Bristol’s inaugural ‘Too Many Critics’.
Normally found on the other side of the kitchen pass, Martin Booth (Bristol24/7), Tim Hayward (Financial Times), Andy Clarke (food TV producer), Jess Carter (Crumbs) and food blogger Natalie Brereton, will each take charge of a course, cooking and serving it to a room of highly critical diners.
The menu will be developed with the help of Todd Francis (executive chef of the Hyde & Co group) and food awards judge (and previous South West Chef of the Year winner) Steve Ashworth, with guests having the chance to rate each critic’s dish. The most highly-rated critic will win a bottle of Champagne; the rest receiving wooden spoons before slinking back into the kitchen to finish their washing up.
All profits from ticket sales will go towards Action Against Hunger, world leaders in tackling child malnutrition.
The price includes a cocktail on arrival, a four-course, Middle Eastern-themed feast, and entertainment throughout the evening.
