‘Prime-form’ Genge selected for Six Nations
Bristol Bears ace Ellis Genge has been named in England’s squad for the Guinness Six Nations, which kicks off in February.
Genge is the only Bristol Bears player included in the 36-player England squad unveiled by head coach Steve Borthwick.
The prop has been in sensational form for the Bears this season, earning three consecutive Player of the Match awards.
He was also named Gallagher Premiership Player of the Month for December, securing 44 per cent of the public vote in a tightly contested poll ahead of Exeter Chiefs’ Greg Fisilau, who was also selected for the Six Nations campaign.

Despite starting most games from the bench, Genge has delivered the goods for Pat Lam’s side, helping Bristol overcome Harlequins and Newcastle in emphatic fashion.
His performance against the Quins at the Allianz Stadium in Twickenham has already entered Bristol rugby folklore, after sidestepping home defenders before sprinting 45 metres to score a stunning try in a 40 to 14 masterclass.
After the fixture, Lam heaped praise on Genge, describing the 30-year-old as being at his “best”.
He said: “That’s Ellis at his best. He’s hard to stop in that mood. He is such a weapon for us and his try was typical of him — seeing the opportunity and the gap, putting his head down and charging through.”
Another Bristol Bears player in prime form, Louis Rees-Zammit, has also been named in Wales’ Six Nations squad.
Rees-Zammit recently signed a long-term contract with the Bears committing his future to Ashton Gate.
The two Bears team mates will meet head-to-head when England host Wales on February 7 at the Allianz Stadium.

Away from the pitch, Genge is also known for his community engagement, especially for city’s young people.
He was named as Bristol Bears Community Foundation’s first official ambassador in 2024. He is also one of the ambassadors of the state-of-the-art youth centre in south Bristol 224 Youth Zone.
