Rovers approached by 12 investors
Bristol Rovers have been approached by 12 potential investors over the last two years, the club’s chairman has revealed.
In his weekly message to fans, Nick Higgs dismissed “unfounded rumours” of the club being bought out and warned of the dangers in accepting advances which could see the club fall into the “wrong hands”.
“The truth is that over the last two years we have been approached by around 12 potential investors in the club,” he said.
“Recent history has shown how boards of directors who sell to the first bidder who waves a chunky cheque in their faces have left their clubs in the wrong hands.
“We wouldn’t consider selling to someone who within weeks of taking over changes the club’s kit to red and white and renames us Bristol Pirates,” he added.
He said the club had become attractive to investors who are keen to put their money into a team with a large fan base and plans to move to a 22,000-seater stadium. Rovers have hinted in the past that they would consider the right takeover offer.
In his message, Higgs added that he was pleased with the judge’s decision to award Rovers and quick appeal over their stadium row with Sainsbury’s, adding he was confident of a win in court.
“We are all working very hard behind the scenes with our lawyers to get everything in place to get this over the line so we can start building the UWE Stadium at the earliest opportunity.
“It is vital to the club’s long-term future that we win this case, and we are all quietly confident the result will go our way,” he said.
