Bristol Rovers named as one of hardest clubs in England to support
“Being a Bristol Rovers fan had become a weekly test of endurance, commitment and maybe common sense.”
The Athletic follows Gasheads in a new article which names Rovers as one of the three hardest clubs in England to support alongside Preston North End and Darlington.
The story follows fans of the three teams and their “loyalty, boredom, injustice and the willingness to endure in the face of apparent logic”.
One of the long-suffering fans in the story is Mike Jay, who has been following the club since 1967.
Another is 19-year-old Kacy Wood. “It’s part of what you do, ain’t it?” Kacy told the Athletic. “It’s just part of your weekly routine.
“If you’re not at Rovers, what are you doing? It’s in your blood. You can’t help it.
“Sometimes you do walk away and think: ‘Why do I do it to myself?’ But, no matter what, you always know you’ll turn up next week.”
