My Bristol Favourites: Josh Dickinson
Josh Dickinson is the co-owner of the Scrandit, a restaurant and bar on Christmas Steps that hosts different pop-up events each week.
The Scrandit is shortlisted in the Food & Drink category of Bristol Legends, with tickets still available for the unmissable awards ceremony at Ashton Gate Stadium on March 6.
These are five of Josh’s favourite places:
Other

Other is a casual neighbourhood restaurant on Cannon Street, owned and run by Zak Hitchman and Emma Lyons – photo: Other
“Other in Bedminster has some of the most exciting cookery in the city. Flavour town! I’m also a fan of the plates.”
The Clyde

“The Clyde Arms in Redland is the best boozer in Bristol. Can’t say I get out that much, but if I’m to ‘wet the whistle’ then you’ll find me there. Anywhere that lets you order a curry in the pub is the place for me. Maz’s pool table, Maz’s rules. Simple as that.”
Interlude

Interlude will sadly not be on St Michael’s Hill for too much longer – photo: Martin Booth
“Interlude owner Laurence is him. Plus it’s my favourite hot choccy in Bristol. I’m occasionally coerced into drinking too much wine. And I’m good with that.”
Chez Candice

Chez Candice is a true gem of a restaurant tucked away in Boiling Wells Lane serving up seasonal food from a converted horsebox – photo: Chez Candice
“When the weather is nice, there’s nowhere else to be. It’s a little escape. My partner and I happily sit there for hours when we get a day off together. Chez Candice in St Werburgh’s is a breath of fresh air. Her food is everything you want to eat. By far the best lunch in Bristol. I’d die happy eating that chocolate, marmalade and hazelnut frangipane tart.”
Hart’s Bakery

Hart’s Bakery has long been at the epicentre of Bristol’s food and drink scene – photo: Martin Booth
“Catch me at Hart’s Bakery every Friday stuffing my face with whatever Issy Cox is putting in a bun for the lunch special. I normally warm up with a sausage roll and finish with a shortbread or tiramisu. We should all be looking at Hart’s for how to do things properly in hospitality. They are a Bristol institution.”
