By Martin Booth  Friday May 16, 2025

Jack Taylor was an integral part of the Gloucestershire Cricket team who were victorious in last season’s T20 Blast.

This year’s competition begins for the Shire on May 30 with the visit of Kent to the Seat Unique Stadium in Ashley Down.

These are Jack’s top-five Bristol favourites:

Seven Lucky Gods

“My wife and I like our Asian fusion and Japanese food, so Seven Lucky Gods is right up there. The Korean fried chicken is elite and the atmosphere at Wapping Wharf is great. It’s a really cool place to eat. We haven’t been there for a while – it’s a bit tricky now with our nearly four-year-old daughter and 18-month-old son – but we’re probably due to go again soon.”

Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm

“We’ve got a family membership to Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm and it’s a great place to take the kids because they love animals. There are also slides and lots of other play things, so it’s a perfect afternoon activity.”

Three Brothers Burgers

Look out for Jack on an e-scooter picking up a burger from Three Brothers – photo: Martin Booth

“In a place like Bristol, you’re spoilt for choice when it comes to burgers – and I’ve sampled a lot of the burger scene over the years – but Three Brothers Burgers is number one for me. It’s in a great location on Welsh Back near King Street and is always buzzing. The buns for their burgers are just so soft. It wasn’t on Deliveroo one night a few years ago, so I got on a Voi to go and pick it up. I Voi-ed there and Voi-ed back. I could have gone to a lot of other places but I was committed to the Three Brothers Burgers cause.”

The Downs

What we know as the Downs today is made up of Durdham Down to the north and east, owned by Bristol City Council; and Clifton Down to the south which is owned by the Society of Merchant Venturers – photo: Martin Booth

“The Downs is just a nice, relaxing place. We’re so fortunate to have that massive green space in the centre of town. We take the kids and the dog up there. The kids can run around, we can hit some balls, chuck the ball for the dog. We do play cricket but I’m also trying to get the kids into a bit of golf at the moment because I enjoy that.”

New Cut Coffee

“Bristol’s coffee scene is so good now and my wife and I are pretty into our coffee. The coffee at New Cut near Wapping Wharf is very good – you’re not just drinking any old stuff. New Cut co-owner Jack is getting married soon. Good luck, Jack! Hope your wedding goes well.”
