My Bristol Favourites: Holysseus Fly
Holly Wellington, aka Holysseus Fly, is the lead singer, co-writer and pianist in Ishmael Ensemble, and is now embarking on a solo career.
Her biggest UK tour to date starts at Strange Brew on October 30; with her debut album set for release in 2026.
These are Holly’s top-five Bristol favourites:
Native Vine

“Fiona, who manages Native Vine on Church Road in Redfield, is everything. You couldn’t want more in a wine connoisseur. She’s absolutely charming and wonderful. I don’t really know much about wine, but natural stuff definitely doesn’t give me a headache. I love this place so much I go at least once a week and if Fiona or Bon are in, I’m staying all night. Also, the food bangs.”
Southville Deli’s sandwich fridge

“You cannot get me away from here. Best sandwiches in Bristol, hands down. Salt and pepper tofu? Sign me up. Joe, who runs the Southville Deli store in Redfield, is the best. I know the people who run these places because I’m there too much really but I’m proud to be and supporting my local food and drink places. All these sandwiches are amazing. Never disappoints!”
Strange Brew

“Strange Brew is the best venue in Bristol and I have seen some of my favourite shows here. I’ll be playing on October 30 as part of my upcoming tour with my amazing band. I’m so excited. Can’t wait! It’s going to be a real special one, my first headline here at such an amazing space! Opening will be Bethany Kyle & Eli Jitsuto and Scarlett Loran. It’s going to be so special so don’t miss this! Expect dance routines, big vocals, big feelings and maybe also expect a big hat.”

Barton Fields goats

“I volunteer caring for these goats in Barton Fields between Fishponds and Speedwell, and it’s such a special part of my week. The project is run by Goat Busters, with the idea of boosting wellbeing in the area. They definitely do boost my wellbeing!”
Ramen Monster

“My friend Bethany showed me Ramen Monster on St Stephen’s Street. The vegan ramen is everything at this place. Best ramen in Bristol. If you disagree, I’m ready to battle.”
