My Bristol favourites: Ian Street
Ian Street joined First West of England in 2007 as a driver. He is now a supervisor covering the Bristol Airport route.
First is currently looking for around 70 more drivers to join its team. For more information, or to apply, visit www.firstbusdrivers.com.
Here are Ian’s top-five Bristol favourites:
Bristol Airport
“I love this airport. It has changed so much over the years and it is continuing to grow to meet the future needs of its customers. The friendly family atmosphere it has is so much better than the other airports I have travelled from in the past.”
4 Counties Bikers
“I couldn’t leave this group out! Since becoming part of 4 Counties Bikers back in April 2014, my wife and I spend lots of time with like-minded people who love motorcycling and social get-togethers. We normally have two ride outs each month and two or three social meetings which attract lots of interest and also help newbie motorcyclists build their confidence so that they can enjoy their bikes even more.”
Staple Hill
“I live in Staple Hill, so the small shopping area is a place that I spend a lot of time in. There are many individual shops to eat and drink and a nice park that has events on throughout the year. On the weekend it’s always quite lively. What’s more, when the sun is out, there is also the Bristol & Bath Railway Path that runs through it, which is also great for those evening walks.”
Cafe Grounded, Gloucester Road
“I reckon with the amount of coffee I’ve drunk in Cafe Grounded since it opened I could have bought my own coffee shop. But it’s not about the money, I find that this is a great place to meet up and chill with friends for a meal or just another coffee. The staff are some the friendliest I have seen for a long time.”
First West of England
“I don’t suppose many people would put their work as one of their favourite picks. But doing the job I do I reckon I spend half of my week meeting people. I can be anywhere between Bristol Bus Station and Bristol Airport and no two days are the same. One day I could be helping tourists with directions, advising them on the best ways to see the sights of Bristol, while the next minute I could be spent dealing with traffic congestion and trying to get passengers to their destination to meet their onward connections. Every day is a blank canvas that could change at a moment’s notice.”
