Tesco announces unexpected closure of Bristol shop
A Tesco Express in Bristol is set to close before the end of 2025.
The Gloucester Road shop’s closure bucks the trend of expansion for the supermarket giant, which receives more than £1 in every £10 spent in UK retail.
According to data, Bristol currently has 50 Tesco shops making it the UK city outside London with the most.

A Tesco spokesperson told Bristol24/7: “We have taken the difficult decision to close our Bishopston Express later this year.
“The store will be open as normal until then and we will continue to serve the local area through a number of other nearby stores.
“We intend to redeploy all colleagues to other local stores.”
Other Tesco shops near Gloucester Road are on Cheltenham Road, Marlborough Street, Whiteladies Road and Golden Hill.
Despite still regularly heralded as having the longest stretch of independent shops in the UK and even in Europe, there are already a Co-Op, Sainsbury’s and newly opened Waitrose on Gloucester Road within walking distance of the Tesco Express.
