Subway to close to make space for new segregated cycle path
An underpass beneath a busy road is due to be permanently closed on Monday.
The subway on Redcliff Hill between Redcliffe Sixth Form Centre and the Mercure hotel will disappear to make space for a new segregated cycle lane and more trees.
The existing pedestrian crossing above ground will also be widened as part of the upcoming project to change the layout of the nearby Bedminster Bridges Roundabout.

According to the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority, “the Bedminster Bridges scheme will introduce segregation of bus, cycle and general traffic in the vicinity of the existing gyratory, reducing bus journey times and improving safety for cyclists”.
“By creating clearer, dedicated spaces for each mode of transport, the project will enhance efficiency, reduce conflicts between road users, and encourage greater use of sustainable travel options.”
