Redcliffe confrontation video goes viral

By Martin Booth  Monday Aug 24, 2020

A video of a white woman asking a black man for his number plate while he cleaned his car has now been viewed more than 2.5m times on Twitter.

The video, taken on Redcliffe Parade East, starts with the man shooting the video saying: “This white lady thinks I’m robbing my own car because I’m black.”

The incident happened on Saturday morning near the Colosseum pub as Abdi Kheyre, a university student, was tidying his Ford Fiesta before its MOT.

Reacting to the video, which has been seen around the world, Kheyre thanked people for their support.

He wrote: “To the people saying I should’ve not sworn at her. fuck off … if someone is racial profiling you, you just going (to) say nothing and be calm? Hell no. Don’t be nice to racists. Enough is enough.”

In the video, the woman pushing a fold-up bicycle asks Kheyre what his registration number is before saying: “It looks like you’re rifling through someone’s glove box.”

Kheyre tells the woman to call the police and accuses her of being racist: “You’re so racist, ’cause I’m black, you think I’m robbing my own car.”

The woman replies: “Everything comes down to race now, doesn’t it?”

In a second video, the the woman returns to Kheyre to apologise, saying: “Can I just say, since we live round here, we should be mates.”

But Kheyre tells her that he does not want her to apologise.

He says: “You assume I’m robbing my own car because of my colour… Get out of here, man. Chat to me again to see what happens. Dickhead.”
