Rave for Bristol chef’s urgent life-saving treatment

By Karen Johnson  Saturday Apr 26, 2025

Friends and family are hosting a rave to raise funds for the chef and co-owner of a Thai restaurant, who needs urgent life-saving treatment after a road accident in Thailand.

Co-owner of Gorilla Thai, Ricky Eury, was in Phuket to compete in a Thai boxing match when he was struck by a motorbike whilst crossing the road.

In the aftermath of the ghastly accident on March 15, Eury was diagnosed with multiple fractures to his skull, bleeding on the brain, a broken rib and a broken nose.

Soon after the accident, his girlfriend and parents flew to Thailand to be with Eury.

An initial fundraiser launched to gather funds for his treatment swiftly crossed the £30,000 mark, however, his medical expenses mounted larger than the raised funds.

Tragically, Eury’s medical insurance expired a day before the accident, due to be renewed once he was back in the UK.

Ricky is described by his friends as someone who would do anything to help others in a time of crisis

Even though Eury’s condition has now stabilised, recent CT scans revealed a piece of skull lodged in his brain.

He is also suffering from a cerebral thrombosis, reducing his survival rate after any surgery to 30 per cent.

Billy Branter, Eury’s long-time friend and co-owner of Gorilla Thai, has joined Eury’s friends and family to host a raffle and rave event to raise money for his buddy’s treatment.

The raffle promises the chance to win festival and concert tickets, high-end clothing vouchers, and fine dining experiences with prizes valued at more than £5000.

On May 10, a special rave with family-friendly activities, Thai BBQ and DJ sets will be hosted at Lost Horizon to hopefully reach the mammoth target of £45,000 that is required for Eury’s treatment.

Appealing for support to save his friend and business partner, Branter said: “Collectively we’ve put our blood, sweat and tears into building Gorilla Thai Kitchen and we need the power of Bristol to help keep us afloat now.

“Ricky will desperately need something solid to return to, and I’m doing my best to make that happen.”

All funds raised from the raffle and rave will directly go to Eury’s treatment.
