Leigh Woods fire believed to be arson

By Bristol24/7  Tuesday Apr 5, 2016

A fire which tore through a derelict building on the edge of Ashton Court Estate is believed to have been started deliberately.

Smoke and flames could be seen coming from the estate from across South Bristol on Sunday, leading to many fearing that Ashton Court Mansion was on fire.

Avon Fire & Rescue received more than 50 concerned calls and attended the scene in Leigh Woods.

They returned to damped the last of the flames on Monday morning and now, following an investigation, say they believe the incident was arson.

“The safety of the building made the investigation challenging, but we believe the cause of the fire is most likely deliberate,” a spokesperson said.
