Jail for man who assaulted woman
A Bristol man has been jailed for 20 months for sexually assaulting a woman in her own home.
Andrew Patrick Casagran, 39, of City Road, was sentenced at Bristol Crown Court after admitting a charge of sexual assault. He was also placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for 10 years.
In the early hours of 13 December 2015, Casagran went into an unlocked flat and sexually assaulted the victim while she was lying asleep in bed next to her partner.
The victim recognised Casagran and called the police to report the incident.
Investigating officer Det Con Christopher Surgey said: “Casagran had been drinking alcohol during the evening of this incident and had also taken cocaine.
“In court, the judge said the fact Casagran was intoxicated was no excuse for what he did.
“This was an extremely distressing ordeal for the victim and I’d like to thank her for supporting the investigation and providing detailed statements which has helped secure this conviction.
“We’d always encourage victims of any kind of sexual assault to have the confidence to report incidents to the police.”
