First look inside Bristol Temple Meads’ new eastern entrance
The departure boards may already be in place but the first trains on them will only appear in 2026.
Welcome to the new eastern entrance at Bristol Temple Meads, where construction is complete but which now goes into “hibernation” until the University of Bristol’s new enterprise campus next door is also finished.
Network Rail estimates that by 2030, 2.5m passengers will be using this entrance which will be located on the newly created University Square.

The main structural steel frame of the building that makes up the new eastern entrance stands six metres high and 20 metres wide on land that used to be the Royal Mail sorting office and previously was the city’s cattle market.
Passengers entering the station from here will emerge at the end of the pedestrian subway beneath the platforms.
