First gorillas, then Gromits and now unicorns

By Martin Booth  Wednesday Sep 7, 2022

A new sculpture trail coming to Bristol will be raising money for Leukaemia Care and see a herd of unicorns take to the streets.

Unicornfest will see the mythical creatures painted by both Bristol artists and schools displayed in prominent locations across the city from July to September 2023.

Following in the footsteps of previous sculpture trails including Gromit Unleashed and Wow! Gorillas, the latest event will also form part of the 650th anniversary of Bristol – with a pair of unicorns on our city’s coat of arms.

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

The trail is set to be officially launched at a glittering event at Circomedia in St Paul’s on Thursday evening.

Bristol mayor Marvin Rees will unveil the first three sculptures decorated by artists Inkie and Jenny Urquhart, and children from St Werburgh’s Park Nursey School.

Leukaemia Care chief executive, Zack Pemberton-Whiteley, said: “Bristol has a long history with unicorns and we want to recognise that through fantastic artwork and storytelling about the city.

“We’re looking forward to working with businesses, schools and community groups to bring this exciting trail to life.

“As well as the many fantastic promotional benefits that being a sponsor brings, you will also be helping to raise money for Leukaemia Care and enabling us to continue our work supporting anybody who is affected by a diagnosis of leukaemia.”
