Find out what happens in your garden after darkness falls

By Hope Riley  Thursday Jan 30, 2020

As part of the upcoming series of Springwatch, the BBC will be filming a new segment called The Night Garden, documenting secret goings-on of wildlife after dark in one of Bristol’s urban gardens.

The Night Garden will feature wildlife visitors such as foxes, badgers and hedgehogs that appear when night falls using infrared rig cameras placed throughout the garden.

The segment hopes to shed some light on how animals adapt their habits to play, forage for food and interact with one another in the rural microcosm of the domestic green space as lots of gardens in Bristol act as a welcome sanctuary to wildlife living in an otherwise hostile urban environment.

To find the perfect garden for observing any interesting patterns of behaviour in the animals that occur during hours of darkness, the BBC are asking for people living in Bristol to come forward and offer their domestic green spaces.

Anyone who has a suitable garden and are interested in getting involved with the series, please get in touch with [email protected].

The filming itself would involve a few cameras being rigged in the garden with footage being recorded for several nights each month over a short period, with minimal disruption to residents.
