Emergency heart surgery for stab victim
Police have launched an appeal after a man was stabbed in the chest in Southmead, leaving him in need of emergency heart surgery.
The 24-year-old was attacked in Lanercost Road, near the junction with Pen Park Road, at about 1.30pm on Thursday, May 28.
Police said they were treating the attack as an attempted murder. They added that the victim was now in a “stable condition” after emergency surgery but had suffered “life-changing” injuries.
Detective inspector Peter Highway, investigating officer, said: “The victim was walking a friend’s dogs when he was approached by two men in the street and attacked.
“He suffered a single stab wound to the chest which required emergency heart surgery.
“He’s likely to have suffered life-changing injuries but these could easily have proved fatal.
“We’re treating this attack as attempted murder and are carrying out numerous enquiries today to try and identify the men responsible.
“I’d appeal to anyone who was in the Lanercost Road area of Southmead around the time of incident to come forward if they can help us with the inquiry.”
