4500 Miles From Dehli, Colston Avenue: ‘The model of a classic Indian restaurant’ – restaurant review

By Molly Pipe  Friday Jul 17, 2026

It is 15 years since 4500 Miles From Dehli opened its doors and the centrally based restaurant is in the throes of good health.

With an extensive menu, a sophisticated feel and welcoming staff, it has all the ingredients of an enjoyable evening out.

Inside, the place is suave, classily decorated and dimly lit. It evokes the feeling of a proper, traditional pub, where it could be blazing daylight outside and you wouldn’t know it.

Everything you look at, and every element of the service, is in the model of a classic Indian restaurant in the UK.

The decor is muted and sophisticated, the smartly-clad waiters are impeccably polite and the colour scheme is a mix of black and off-white.

The dal makhani was the jewel in the meal’s crown

Food-wise, it offers well-made, rich dishes with variety.

My order was a mix of a peppery, bright lamb jalfrezi and a sauce-laden chicken methivala. Both were packed with flavour and were delicious, though the chicken itself got somewhat lost in the methivala.

The presentation was elegant, with the meals arriving in round, silver dishes and laden with fresh herbs.

But the star of the show was the dal makhani, a dish that is my favourite anyway and which did not disappoint here.

Creamy, tender and with just the right amount of texture from the lentils, the dal had a warm, mellow flavour and lingering aftertaste.

It was the jewel on the crown of what had been an enjoyable trip.

The restaurant is celebrating its 15th birthday

4500 Miles from Dehli doesn’t set the world alight with originality. It didn’t introduce me to flavours I’ve never had before or dishes I wasn’t expecting.

But then, not every restaurant needs to do that.

This is a dependable establishment offering a sophisticated atmosphere and well-crafted food – the sort of place you should go to if you’re craving that classic Indian restaurant experience.

It makes for a good-quality night out and should be proud of its 15 years in business.
