David Cameron visits Bristol as vote looms
David Cameron paid a midnight visit to a Bristol supermarket in a last-ditch attempt to bolster support in a key marginal seat.
The prime minister arrived at Asda in Longwell Green with Kingswood MP Chris Skidmore to speak with staff on the night shift stacking shelves and loading lorries.
In another carefully choreographed photo opportunity, Cameron stood up for Tory incumbent Skidmore who is defending a slender majority against a strong Labour opposition.
‘I wanted to come to Kingswood because Chris Skidmore has done a fantastic job here and I wanted to recognise that,’ he told the Bristol Post.
“Over the last five years we have seen unemployment fall in the constituency from 1,320 to 670 which is fantastic, we want to carry on with that work.
‘It is important for me to come to places like Kingswood and support the work Chris has done as an MP.’

Cameron’s appearance was one of his last on the campaign trail before voters head for the polling stations on Thursday.
His late-night flying visit in Bristol followed a day of canvassing across the South West before the final day of campaigning in what is predicted to be the closest general election for decades.
Skidmore has a fight on his hands to keep his Kingswood seat in the face of a stiff challenge from Labour’s Jo McCarron.
