Community organisation secures lottery funding for radio show on climate change
A Bristol-based organisation, which amplifies South Asian voices, has secured funding for a new community engagement project on climate change.
South Asian Voices Bristol CIC has received a funding package worth £19,000 from the National Lottery Community Fund for its new Climate Connections Project.
As a result, the organisation will join forces with the community radio station BCFM Radio to produce a two-hour monthly radio show exploring South Asian perspectives on climate change.
Sheetal Jetwa, founder and director at South Asian Voices Bristol CIC, has pointed out that it is an important conversation to be had with and among the South Asian community in Bristol.

She said: “South Asian Voices is really about people. It’s about connection, culture, community and creating spaces where people feel seen and heard.
“We want to celebrate our heritage and stories, but also have real conversations that matter — whether that’s wellbeing, climate change, identity or bringing generations together.
“At the heart of it all, it’s about unity, representation and so much more.”
The show will run from June to October.

The partnership between BCFM Radio and South Asian Voices Bristol CIC has not been a new one. The latter had a “takeover” of the radio station on International Women’s Day exploring systematic challenges faced by women at home and work place.
The community organisation, founded by Jetwa back in 2024, organises workshops, community events and panel shows that celebrate South Asian culture, with the aim of “learning, connecting and sharing stories”.
The CIC will also be part of South Asian Heritage Month Bristol, with more events in the pipeline.
