Christopher Walken artwork appears in Castle Park

By Ellie Pipe  Tuesday Nov 16, 2021

In the final few minutes of the first series of The Outlaws, Christopher Walken’s character paints over one of Banksy’s signature rat stencils.

Now a new piece depicting the actor – or his character, Frank – has appeared on a wall in Castle Park.

In the artwork, Walken is shown wearing the bright orange tabard that will be familiar to all who have watched the BBC series about a group of people on a community payback scheme, but this one has ‘Banksy’ stencilled on it.

“It’s not real,” states a man commenting on the new street art on the stone wall surrounding the St Mary le Port area of Castle Park on Tuesday afternoon.

The piece depicts Walken’s character holding a paint roller and is scrawled with the words ‘damb rats’.

In the last few minutes of the final episode of series one of The Outlaws, Walken’s character, Frank, takes away a wooden panel propped up against a wall of Sea Mills Community Centre, revealing a work by Banksy of a rat standing on top of one spray can and pressing the nozzle of another.

After informing his oblivious supervisor, the character then paints over the artwork with a roller – thereby destroying a piece of art likely to have reached a six-figure sum if sold at auction.

A spokesperson for the series confirmed the piece Walken painted over was an original by Bristol’s most famous street artist.
