Emergency meeting for EU nationals in Bristol

By Louis Emanuel  Tuesday Jul 5, 2016

An emergency meeting has been called by EU nationals living in Bristol to address concerns following the Brexit vote.

Nicolas Hatton, an elected French consulate for Bristol, organised the meeting after speaking with hundreds of EU nationals in the city who have been left with a “feeling of bewilderment and anguish” following the vote.

19,686 people in Bristol (4.6 per cent of  the population) were born in other EU countries, according to the 2011 census.

Their legal right to live and work in the UK remains uncertain as the UK prepares for negotiations with the EU about freedom of movement.

Hatton said: “It’s a very difficult time for all of us and this meeting will aim at giving people some reasons to be cheerful by alleviating fear and debunking myths, while providing practical tips and advice to secure our future in Bristol should the Government decide to trigger Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty.”

The meeting will discuss what happens next for EU nationals and how citizenship will work post-Brexit.

Hatton will be joined by Olivier Cadic a French senator representing French citizens living abroad, Josette Lebrat, honorary consul for Bristol & Bath, Annie Burnside, founder of l’Alliance Française and Patricia Connell, bi-national entrepreneur

The meeting will be held at Bradbury Hall Centre, Henleaze, on Sunday, July 10 at 2.30pm and tickets can be booked here.
